Micron rated needlefelt or liquid strainer felts are used for low pressure liquid solid separation.
There are many types of bag filter systems, from small single bag systems to large multi-bag vessels designed for higher flow rates. The vessels can be made in materials from polypropylene to stainless steel and the type of fibre used in the filter media is also chosen to suit the particular liquid chemical type and temperature of operation. In addition, the micron rating is selected to best suit the desired flow rate of the liquid together with the level of particle retention required.
Bag sizes and designs depend upon the type of filter but in general the fabrication of the top of the filter bag and the side seam can be sewn or in the case of polypropylene and polyester welded .
The majority of applications for strainer felt incorporate vessel designs using a metal basket in which the felt bag is supported during the filtration operation. This has allowed the widespread use of Andrew Webron Ltd self supported Weblox media in many applications. A scrim supported range is still available for particular requirements requiring extra stability, for example full filter bag handling from very viscous liquid applications or gravity filters.
Strainer vessels are used in the production of liquids and in their transfer to their point of usage.
Andrew Webron Ltd strainer felts are used in a very wide range of liquid handling applications and processes essential in industries such as:
The self supported Weblox range has micron rated felts of 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 & 200 in both polypropylene and polyester.
The scrim supported range has 5, 10, 25, 50 & 100 microns in both polyester and polypropylene with a 1 and 200 micron ratings in the polyester range.
Polypropylene is a synthetic fibre with exceptionally good chemical resistance particularly in acidic or alkaline chemicals with temperature resistance up to 95 to 100 °C dependant upon conditions. Polypropylene felt media has a calendered smooth surface.
Polyester felts are suitable for acidic water systems and where oxidising agents are present they also show good resistance to most of the common organic solvents. Temperature resistance is up to 90 to 130 °C dependent upon liquid and expected media life. Polyester felt has a singed surface to melt and lock in any surface fibre.
Strainer felt is also available in Polyamide, Viscose and for certain micron ratings in Meta Aramid please ask Andrew Webron Ltd technical sales staff for more information.
